- A retirement reception for Jeannette Stevens will be held Tues., Dec. 16 from 2-4 p.m. at the Bank of Okolona. All friends are invited to attend.
Personalized trees still available
- Christmas trees lining the Houston Courthouse Square are still available for purchase from the Main Street Association. A $50 fee will purchase the tree with name and/or logo. Contact Joyce East at 456-2321 for information.
Dollar General disperses literacy grants in county
- The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded grants totaling $92,000 to 92 schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations in Mississippi that promote literacy.
Grants were distributed to three facilities in Chickasaw County. The Houston Carnagie Library, the Houlka Library and Excel in Okolona all received funds from the grant cycle.
“I would like to thank our generous customers whose donations made these grants possible,” said Phillip Manning, region manager for Dollar General. “The Literacy Foundation gives back to the community by supporting literacy and educational opportunities for everyone.”
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports schools, libraries and literacy organizations throughout the communities that Dollar General calls home with on-going grant programs.
