HOUSTON - Chickasaw County Relay for Life 2010 is beginning to take shape and the next organizational meeting will be held Tues., Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Houston Courthouse. Relay Chair, Sarah Flake, said that this meeting is not just for those who have participated in the past, but for anyone who would like to understand more about Relay for Life.

"Anybody and everybody is invited," Flake said.

Chickasaw County Relay for Life began in Houston over ten years ago and has expanded to cover the entire county, welcoming teams and individuals from all areas. In recent years, smaller teams have combined to assist one another, school groups have banded together and churches have gotten involved to form active, participating teams. This year, organizers are hoping to attract more teams, more campsites and include more fun for all in attendance.

Teams raise funds for the American Cancer Society through the year and all come together for one night to recognize those who have fought the battle with cancer. The event is traditionally held at Joe Brigance Park in Houston due in part to the availability of lights, water and a walking trail.

Team competitions have proved entertaining in the past and organizers are hoping for more people to join in the fun this year.

For information, to join a team, to form a team or to participate in any way, join the meeting at the Houston Courthouse on Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
