HOUSTON - Aberdeen's Lady Bulldogs are now 9-0 and the Bulldogs showed signs of getting back on track with a 65-56 win in the nightcap of a sweep at Houston.
In the girls game, Aberdeen got 25 points from Jameika Hoksins and eight apiece from Janee Hodges and Regina Barker in a 61-40 win.
Aberdeen coach Latorrence Bivens said he's not focusing on the perfect record.
"It's all about competition," Bivens said. "We've just got to go out and compete day in and day out. When we step on that court, we're 0-0."
Ebone Williams' putback put Aberdeen ahead 59-38 late in the fourth period and Hoskins' steal and layup made it 61-38.
Ty-nita Baker had 12 points to lead Houston (7-2). Jasmine Pierce had 11.
For the guys, the Bulldogs trailed 24-17 in the second period, but scored the half's final eight points to take a one-point lead to the locker room.
Aberdeen went ahead 44-37 on Earnest Williams' putback late in the third, but Shawn Williams' 3 tied things 46 in the fourth.
Mario Lucas answered with a 3 for Aberdeen (3-6). Fred Ward hit a bucket and Channing Ward's free throw gave the Bulldogs a 52-46 lead.
Aberdeen coach Roy Hazzle is glad to have the depth back on his team.
"We've just got to come on and get consistent and gel. The main thing is everybody's got to get in shape," Hazzle said. "To have a bench as deep as we have is a luxury."
Houston (4-6) got within 58-54 on Xavier Cousins' board and putback, but Lucas hit two free throws for a 60-54 lead with 32.5 seconds to play.
"Right now things are not like we want it, but it's not how you start, it's how you finish," Hazzle said. "These guys are going to come together at the right time."
