Flu shots available

The Excel Commons at 230 West Main Street in Okolona will offer flu shots on Friday, oct. 17 between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The MS Dept. of Health will be administering flu shots to individuals 18 years and older. A $25 fee applies. Medicaid and Medicare recipients will be given the shots for free. For information, call Debbra Shelton at 447-2030 or 447-3344.

The Chickasaw County Health Department will offer special health clinics each Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Houston Clinic and each Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Okolona Clinic.

Adult flu vaccines will cost $25 and pneumonia vaccines will be available for $48. Children under 19 can receive the vaccines for $10. Medicare and Medicaid patients will not be charged, but will need to bring their cards with them to the clinic.

Veteran's Day parade planned in Okolona

The second annual Veteran's Day parade is currently being organized in Okolona and will take place on Nov. 11. All veterans are invited and welcome to participate, said coordinator Alvin Thomas.

Participants will meet at the Okolona Elementary School on Nov. 11 at 8:30 to prepare to move down Main Street around the monument and back. Veterans will be divided into groups of service and are welcome to walk the parade route if they wish. Transportation will be provided, as well, for the convenience of veterans.

Coordinator Alvin Thomas extends a welcome to all veterans to participate and to guests and residents to come out and honor those who gave in service to their country.

Okolona High School students will be on hand to escort veterans with signs designating their time/era of service.
