HOUSTON - The Houston Community Theater will be back on stage following a hiatus during the renovation of the HHS Auditorium.
Organizers are planning to stage a musical and dance revue in combination with the annual beauty review held at the school. Director Janet Coker said that about 65 students are already involved.
"It will be a musical as well as a beauty review," Coker said. "We will have the beauty review for grades 6-12 and in between groups there will be dancing."
Coker said that the addition of the musical interludes will keep the audience entertained with no breaks in entertainment. Student participation is one thing that she doesn't lack.
"What's really great is our guys are dancing, too," Coker said. "They're fantastic."
Beauty review contestants will be judged on pageant wear and stage presence. Dance numbers will not be judged. The "Dream Girls" performance will take place on April 24 at 7 p.m. in the newly renovated auditorium at the high school. Reserve seating is required.
"This will be the first performance in the auditorium with our new theatre seats," Coker said. "After taking a break for two years, everyone is really excited."
