Chickasaw County Deputy Sheriff James Myers said a jail escapee wanted for murder in another state was found last night in Oktibbeha County.

Michael Scott Ellis, 25, was arrested near Maben at around 11 p.m. while attempteing to go through a safety checkpoint. According to Myers, Ellis was heading South on Highway 15 in a stolen truck he had taken from a nearby industrial park.

It is unclear how he escaped from the Chickasaw County Jail, but deputies believe he escaped around 9 p.m. Tuesday. Security tapes from the jail are still being reviewed and jailers interviewed.He was first arrested by Chickasaw County deputies over the weekend after a short chase.

He is wanted for murder in Illinois and Myers said the Illinois authorities are on their way to pick him up this morning.

Ellis now faces an additional charge of felony jail escape in Chickasaw County.
