A detour is in effect for part of the Natchez Trace Roadway in northern Chickasaw County.

Because of the recent heavy rains, an embankment has failed on the east side of the parkway at milepost 245.8, near Monroe Mission.

The detour went up today and will last about two weeks, Trace officials said.

Northbound traffic will be rerouted at milepost 239.2 via state Highway 32 east to state Highway 41, then north back to the Parkway and re-entering at milepost 246.9, just inside Pontotoc County.

Southbound traffic will be rerouted beginning at milepost 246.9 via Highway 41 south to Highway 32, then west back to the Parkway and re-entering at milepost 239.2.

Access to the Parkway at Davis Lake Road (County Road 413) will be closed.

Additional travel time should be less than 15 minutes, Trace officials said.
