HOUSTON – Dirtwork has been completed on the new WIN Job Center in Houston and the foundation should quickly follow. Work orders for the new facility were issued July 13 to King Metal Buildings out of Louisville and the project is predicted to come in ahead of the 365 day deadline.
The new job center is the product of a partnership between the City of Houston, Chickasaw County and Itawamba Community College and will offer employment and educational training for local and area residents.
“It’s a good partnership,” said Cecil Williams of ICC. “We’ll be able to offer computer classes, GED/ABE, ESL, job training and help people get ready for their high school diploma.”
As construction of the building continues, ICC will be on board to help furnish it with equipment, computers and personnel.
“When it gets to a certain point, ICC will go in and do their DSL and computer work,” said Chancery Clerk Wanda G. Sweeney.
“This facility will serve not only Houston, but will be accessible for the whole area,” Williams said. “Houlka, Okolona, Vardaman – all the surrounding communities will have access to training. It’s a win-win for all parties in that area.”
The facility will be located on South Monroe Street in Houston adjacent to the Chickasaw County EMA building (the former Sheriff’s Dept.).
