WOODLAND – The Town of Woodland is celebrating the holiday season in a big way, with over one million lights creating a multitude of displays throughout the town.
The majority of the lighting displays came from Drs. Clint and Laura Washington of Amory. Clint is a former resident of Woodland and he and Laura featured a big holiday display at their home each year. Last year, they decided not to put up the display and this season, Mayor Patti Watkins and the town of Woodland borrowed it and brought it to Chickasaw County.
Last Friday night saw lines of cars heading south on Hwy. 15 to attend the first night of the display and open house held at Springer Mobile Homes. Viewers may drive or walk through the streets of Woodland to see the magical lights and decorations and the route is clearly marked.
Nearing the end of the route, signs instruct viewers to turn their car radios to 95.7 to hear a musical description of the birth of Christ that is played out in a lighted display near the entry to the town.
The displays will be lighted each night through Christmas and are open to the public at no charge.
